When someone is called Manglik
When Mars (Mangal) is in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house counted from the lagna or from the Moon sign. Some traditions add the 2nd house, which is why websites can disagree. We check from both the lagna and the Moon and say clearly where the result comes from.
Classical exceptions
- Mars in its own sign (Mesha, Vrishchika) or exalted (Makara)
- House-specific exceptions given in the classical texts
- Jupiter with Mars or aspecting it
- Karka or Simha lagna
Being Manglik is common
Mars in 5 of the 12 houses counts, and it is checked from two points (lagna and Moon) — so many people turn out Manglik, and many of them also have an exception. It is nothing to fear; in marriage matching it is one factor among several.
